By Assistant Chief Kevin Zimmerman
June 8, 2017

On Saturday, June 3, 2017, several members of the Liberty Hose Co. #1 of Williamstown PA (Dauphin County Station 24) arrived at Station 59 to finalize their purchase of Engine 59. Company 24 members spent time with Company 59 personnel pumping the Engine, focusing on the CAFS system, before finalizing the paperwork and taking the rig back up north to its new home.

The Lower Swatara Fire Department purchased Engine 59 (manufactured by Seagrave) in 1998. Engine 59 operated as the front line engine until the purchase of Engine 59-1 (Ferrara) in 2012. Engine 59 faithfully served the residents of Lower Swatara Township and the greater Middletown area for many years. We hope that it will continue to serve the residents of Williamstown for many more years to come. Congratulations to the Liberty Hose Co. #1 on the purchase of their new engine, we know you'll love it!

Engine 59 and Tanker 59 are slated to both be replaced in 2017 with the purchase of a Pierce Pumper/Tanker. The new apparatus will reduce the size of the current fleet, saving on costs associated with having two vehicles, while maintaining the capabilities of both an attack engine and a water supply piece.
